To Whom it May Concern,
2017 has proven to be a treacherous year for this country in every way, shape, and form under the current administration and some members of Congress. Unfortunately, it’s becoming evident that the current leaders of our nation are threatening our public lands and waters each and every day (1). Since January 21, 2017, the administration has made multiple threats to our public lands and waters while also alienating our country from the rest of the world as other countries work towards protecting our planet from the current climate crisis.
MAMMOTH LAKES is one of the many ideal destinations for both skiing and camping for most California residents. It offers world-class ski resorts along with stunning, crystal clear blue lakes surrounded by mountains and aspen trees. It's worth the hefty drive from Los Angeles or San Francisco and the drive from either city offers stunning scenery along the way. From Los Angeles, the easiest route is the 4.5 hour drive along the 395 which situated directly next to the picturesque Eastern Sierras.
LAKE TAHOE has been on my list of destinations to visit for quite some time and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to celebrate my 30th birthday with an amazing group of friends. Thanks to some thorough digging on AirBnb, we discovered the perfect rustic cabin in Carnielian Bay located on the northwest side of the lake. Lake Tahoe is situated approximately 7-8 hours north of Los Angeles via car, the drive along the Eastern Sierras on the 395 is absolutely stunning and full of ample sights to make this drive the perfect road trip.
KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK is probably one of my favorite national park destinations to venture to from Los Angeles. It’s a tucked away gem ideal for backpacking, swimming, hiking, and camping within driving distance of approximately 4-5 hours from Los Angeles. Kings Canyon National Park is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, which it shares with Sequoia National Park to the south and Yosemite National Park to the north, and is an ideal escape for any adventurer seeking a scenic refuge away from the bustling city.
ALSTROM POINT is, hands down, one of the most magical dispersed camping spots around. Located on a cliff towering over the picturesque waters of Padre Bay in Lake Powell, Alstrom Point offers breathtaking views of the incredible rock formations of Gunsight Butte and The Cookie Jar. Lake Powell is situated within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and is a massive man made lake that was created after the completion of the Glen Canyon Dam along the Colorado River. When the dam was finished, it essentially forced the excess water into flooding the surrounding slot canyons that now make up Lake Powell, which is currently the second largest reservoir in the United States.
MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE is a perfect alternative to Joshua Tree National Park if you want to wander beneath massive Joshua Trees and through stunning rock formations while avoiding the massive crowds. Mojave National Preserve encompasses a shocking 1.6 million acres and is nestled away in the high desert between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It's a convenient destination to breakup your drive to Las Vegas or if you're doing a further trek west since it's only 3-4 hours away from Los Angeles (if you don't end up driving at rush hour).
